Improper application of chemical fertilizers and vegetable manure to Greenhouse vegetables can lead to excessive nitrate and nitrite levels, affecting human health and vegetable quality.
When applying farmyard manure to vegetables, it must be decomposed first. Because there is no fully decomposed farmyard manure containing pathogens and insect eggs, applying it to vegetables can easily spread diseases.
At the same time, do not put farmyard manure into the Single Span Greenhouse for decomposition, as this will produce a large amount of ammonia, which is bad for vegetable seedlings. Excessive application of chemical fertilizers increases soil salinity, leading to soil salinization.
Control nitrogen fertilizer application, increase phosphorus and potassium fertilizer application, and prohibit or reduce the use of nitrate nitrogen fertilizers, such as ammonium nitrate, potassium nitrate, and compound fertilizers containing nitrates.
In Single Span Greenhouse (Extracellular) environments, increasing ventilation time and light intensity can reduce nitrate content in vegetables. The use of chlorine-containing fertilizers is not recommended because chloride ions reduce starch content in vegetables, thus lowering quality, and their residue in the soil can easily cause soil compaction.
Use magnesium sulfate and ammonium sulfate sparingly, as sulfate ions are not easily absorbed by vegetables, and long-term application will leave residues in the soil, endangering vegetable growth.
